Description:

This interactive 90-minute workshop explores how AI can be used to support reading and writing in the English classroom. Teachers will discover practical, classroom-tested strategies, including creating differentiated reading comprehensions, using AI for text investigations in place of traditional comprehension tasks, generating ideas, reworking sentences, and paraphrasing. We will also explore how AI can provide instant writing feedback, act as a character in a ‘hotseat’ activity, support debate preparation, and serve as a speaking coach. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with different AI tools, create classroom-ready resources, and leave with a range of ideas to enhance student engagement and learning.

Attendees will leave this session with a range of practical strategies for integrating AI into their English classrooms to enhance reading and writing instruction. They will gain hands-on experience with AI tools, both free and paid, exploring how they can be used to differentiate reading comprehension tasks, support text analysis in innovative ways, and provide personalised feedback on student writing. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have created classroom-ready resources and feel confident in applying AI to enrich student learning.

Key Learning Objectives:
1. Understand how AI can be used to support reading comprehension, writing feedback, and language development in the English classroom.
2. Explore and experiment with AI tools to create engaging and differentiated learning activities.
3. Develop confidence in implementing AI strategies to enhance student engagement and literacy skills.
